If you have been looking for something totally different from a typical massage treatment then a Thai Massage Experience may well be what you are looking for. With its roots going back many hundreds of years, it’s unlike most traditional western forms of massage as it is not only relaxing but is exhilarating and probably more beneficial too.
So what makes it so different? Unlike western forms of massage such as Swedish and Deep Tissue, ‘Traditional Thai Massage’ does not require you to undress and climb under linens on a massage table. In fact, ‘Tradition Thai Massage’ is usually performed while you are wearing loose fitting and comfortable clothes on a mat on the floor, although the techniques can be altered to work on a specially designed massage bed if you prefer. Although oils and lotions are not used during the traditional element of your treatment, in the ‘Thai Massage Room and Spa’ they may be used in conjunction additional treatments such as ‘Hot Stone Therapy’ in order to enhance the overall customer benefit.
What Does It Feel Like? Traditional Thai Massage does not require the use of oils or lotions as the treatment does not involve kneading, deep tissue or the gliding motion used in a Swedish or Deep Tissue massage. Instead, a ‘Traditional Thai Massage’ mostly employs stretching, rocking, pulling, and compression.
Many people refer to ‘Traditional Thai Massage’ as a passive form of yoga, and some practitioners prefer to call the practice ‘Thai Yoga Massage’ since you will be stretched and placed into all sorts of positions to stretch muscles that you did not even know needed stretched. Instead of just using my hands and forearms, here in the ‘Thai Massage Room and Spa’ treatments, I will also incorporate the use of my knees and feet to move you through a series of motions and stretches similar to a yoga sequence. Please do not worry though as it is not painful and after your treatment you will feel truly invigorated.
While traditional Thai massage, as performed in Thailand, can be somewhat rough and abrupt in its application, I have modified my treatments to be much more gentle so you should not feel pain at any point in your session. If for any reason you do feel discomfort please be sure to tell me if the pressure needs to be adjusted for your comfort level.
What Are The Benefits of a ‘Traditional Thai Massage’ ? Similar to most other forms of massage, a ‘Traditional Thai Massage’ may help to increase lymphatic flow, improve your sleep, decrease your pain, and improve range of motion and flexibility. However, what separates ‘Traditional Thai Massage’ from other forms of massage treatment is that this passive range of motions are extremely beneficial for those suffering from arthritis and other conditions that may leave the joints painful and stiff.
What can you expect? A session can normally range from 1-2 hours depending on your individual needs although here at the ‘Thai Massage Room & Spa’, 30-minute ‘taster’ sessions with Noi are available in order that you can try out the treatment.
Important : For your fist treatment arrive at least 10-15 minutes early to fill out paperwork and discuss your medical history to make sure that Thai massage is right for you. Because Traditional Thai Massage is performed fully clothed, be sure to wear something loose and comfortable, similar to what you would normally exercise in. If your selected treatment also involves oils or lotions, also bring clothing appropriate for that element.,
- Do not eat a heavy meal before your treatment although a light meal or snack is ok, but remember that you will be stretched in many ways, often putting some pressure on your stomach.
- Do not consume alcohol immediately before or after a treatment.
- Remember to speak up if you ever feel uncomfortable or experience pain during your treatment.
Enjoy your ‘Traditional Thai Experience’ you will not regret it !
